Bilbao
Bilbao is accessible by airplane or car.
Bilbao airport (IATA code: BIO, ICAO code: LEBB) is located 9 km (5.6 mi) north of Bilbao. It is the most important airport in the Basque Country and northern Spain, with over 4.5 million passengers per year. The new main terminal designed by Santiago Calatrava opened in 2000.
Bilbao airport has direct flights to several airports in Spain (Alicante, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaga, Palma, Santiago, Tenerife, Valencia, and Vigo among others), as well as to Lisbon and many European cities.
By car:
- From Lisbon (8h). In Portugal A1/A23/A25 to Vilar Formoso. In Spain A62 from Fuentes de Oñoro to Burgos, AP1 from Burgos to Miranda de Ebro (toll route) and AP68 from Miranda de Ebro to Bilbao (toll route).
- From Madrid (4h) A1 from Madrid to Burgos, AP1 from Burgos to Miranda de Ebro (toll route) and AP68 from Miranda de Ebro to Bilbao (toll route).
- From Barcelona (5h 40m) AP2 to Zaragoza (toll route) and AP68 from Zaragoza to Bilbao (toll route).
